Smart City has announced the purchase of Convention Communication Provisioners, Inc. (CCPI), creating the nation’s largest provider of telecommunications technology to the convention center, event and theme park industries. Recognized as industry leaders, the companies will employ nearly 600 people across the United States, and provide services to 60 event facilities and convention centers in 14 states and Washington D.C. Smart City is also the telecommunications company for the Walt Disney World Resort and surrounding areas in Central Florida. “Thirteen years ago, Smart City was a 10 person company headquartered in a Houston basement,” said Martin Rubin, Smart City CEO. “Today we are a $100 million enterprise with operations throughout the country.” According to Smart City President Paul Ashley, this acquisition will provide clients of Smart City, CCPI and Priority Networks, with an expanded array of services, larger customer support staff and nationwide delivery of technology services. Smart City purchased Priority Networks, a Las Vegas-based telecommunications company, in August 2006. As private companies, financial terms of this transaction are not being disclosed. “We’re excited about the addition of CCPI and what this means for our family of companies. Together, we’ll utilize our combined talents and resources to offer the highest level of service to more than 5,000 events each year,” Ashley said. Company officials said that there will be no restructuring of upper management or changes to current operational staff. CCPI will continue to operate as a stand-alone company under the same name, while its daily operations will be unaffected. CCPI co-founders, David Irons and Scott Nelson, will remain as Chief Executive Officer and President, respectively. “Over the past 10 years, CCPI has become the customer service and technology leader for mid-sized convention centers in North America,” Irons said. “The convention center industry has been changing and adapting over the past few years, and the merger between CCPI and the Smart City family of companies will provide our team with the resources to expand and meet the needs of this evolving industry.” About Smart City Founded in 1984, Smart City is the nation’s largest provider of event technology in the convention industry.
